Easthampton youth football, cheer will take the field this year

Date: 4/19/2021

EASTHAMPTON – Easthampton Youth Football & Cheerleading has officially opened early online registration for the 2021 season.

According to Tom Hogan, the president of the Easthampton Friends of Football (EFFA), the EFFA has been running a youth program for nearly 20 years, but the organization did not have a season last fall due to COVID-19.

“Of course COVID presents new challenges and opportunities for us to review our protocols and policies,” said Hogan.

While it is difficult to know what the situation may look like come fall, Hogan added that the organization will be prepared to adjust protocol and season preparations any way they can. “Whatever offer we’re able to do will be in full accordance with all requirements,” Hogan said, with regard to the pandemic.

Children in grades 3-8 from the Hampshire and Easthampton school districts have until May 31 to register early for either tackle football or cheerleading. According to the organization’s website, the cost is $160 for each football player who is looking to sign up early. Each additional player per household is $140. For those who want to sign up early for cheer, it is $90 per child, and $70 for each additional child per household.

Regular registration for the fall season will take place between June 1 and Aug. 1. For football players signing up between that time period, it will be $180 per child, and $160 for each additional player per household. For those who are signing up for cheer between June 1 and August 1, the price is $110 per child, and $90 for each additional child per household. For either early registration or normal registration, the cost for a mandatory hair bow for cheerleaders is $15.

Residents who sign their child up for either program can either pay online or through a check, according to Hogan.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer the program to the kids,” said Hogan. “The feedback and the anticipation from the community has been fantastic and very positive.”
