SOUTHAMPTON – The First Congregational Church of Southampton has added an additional food pantry option for families in need due to COVID-19.
The Summer Community Cupboard Program for Families with Children will now be open every other Wednesday until Aug. 26.
Their next available day is July 29 and pick up hours are 10 a.m. to noon.
Originally their pantry is open every second and fourth Saturday of the month but because schools are closed and parents may be out of work due to the virus, they have expanded the days, explained Josie Alderman of First Congregational.
Upon arrival, someone from the church will essentially come out to greet pantry-goers. If the person is new to the pantry they ask that they fill out a form so they have the individual on record but there is no proof of need required to receive support from the pantry. Residents from nearby towns can use the pantry as well.
To donate to the church’s pantry, there can be a cash donation or people can bring non-perishable items to the church and leave them on their porch.
