New fitness facility set to open at Red Rock Plaza in Southampton

Date: 5/18/2021

SOUTHAMPTON – A new Anytime Fitness location will be open to the public on Aug. 1 at 15 College Hwy. in the Red Rock Plaza.

Jeff Swanson, owner of Anytime Fitness in Belchertown, Northampton and Westfield, told Reminder Publishing that he wanted to have a fitness center in Southampton because it is his hometown.

“I’ve been in the [Southampton] community since 1994,” said Swanson, who added that he has grown up with his family in Southampton over those years. He has also been the president of Southampton Little League Baseball for 16 years, and is part of the town’s Park Commission.

There was a Soul Fitness center prior to this upcoming Anytime Fitness, according to Swanson, but the business had to be shut down, so Swanson felt it was best to give back to the community by placing the Anytime Fitness in that exact spot.

“It was good timing to certainly bring back a fitness center into our community,” said Swanson. “Especially now coming off of the pandemic, and knowing about the importance of healthy lifestyles … it was meant to be.”

Swanson and his son have officially signed the lease. After that, Swanson said that he had to develop a compliance drawing with the Anytime Fitness organization. “And now we’re working with the architects for the renovations,” he added.

“Everyone’s excited,” said Swanson, who added that he and his son also did the build-out together for the Northampton location back in 2017. “We’re excited to do this in Southampton, and do it right.”

As of right now, masks are still required at the other locations, and the capacity limit is still 50 percent, according to Swanson. Employees and members of the gym are still asked to disinfect and clean, as well. A friend of Swanson who lives in Southampton also installed Bipolar Ionization technology, which essentially scrubs the air for bacteria.

“Besides what the government guidelines are, we wanted to add another layer of protection,” said Swanson.
