WESTHAMPTON – Maggie Rubeck (14 points) and Madde Pond (11) combined for 25 points in Hampshire’s convincing 70-22 win over Gateway in a girls basketball game April 6.
Hampshire got off to a fast start, building a 19-10 first quarter lead and outscoring Gateway 25-7 in the second quarter to take a commanding 44-17 halftime advantage.
The Red Raiders outpaced the Gators 14-5 in the third quarter and held them scoreless in the final frame.
Gateway’s Peyton Bucko scored a team-high 11 points. Hannah Duggan chipped in seven for the Gators.
“We started good, but their press got to us,” Gateway Regional girls basketball coach Eli Robbins said.
“We got into a bit of foul trouble and that was our downfall,”Robbins added.
Elsewhere, the Gateway boys basketball team traveled to Hampshire to take on the Red Raiders. Details were not available at press time.
