Huntington summer music continues at both Town Green, North Hall

Date: 8/11/2022

HUNTINGTON – On Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. the Historic North Hall Arts Festival returns to the Huntington Town Green with a performance of funk, jazz and rock ’n’roll by The Uncles.

The Uncles, featuring Rob Adams on vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and resonator guitar, Dennis Avery on vocals, lap steel and dobro, and John Clark on vocals and electric bass sing three-part harmonies and improvisations based on classics ranging from Elizabeth Cotten, Keb’ Mo’, Jimi Hendrix, Charles Mingus, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles.

The hour-long concert is free, but donations are appreciated. A lawn chair is recommended. The concert will move inside Stanton Hall if it rains.

Now in its 12th year, the arts festival is splitting its season between North Hall on Searle Road and the Huntington Town Green at 24 Russell Rd., both in Huntington, after successfully hosting Sunday afternoon performances on the green last year during the two-year COVID-19 closure of North Hall.

Remaining performances of the season will take place at both venues.

Two more performances scheduled for the North Hall Stage include a program mix of calypso, jazz and Carnival music on Aug. 21 with the Bob Sparkman Trio and Ellen Redman on flute and piccolo.

On Aug. 28, Helen Gillet, a multi-faceted, jazz-based cellist, singer, composer and improviser, will present a program with a mixed variety of musical influence and rhythms.

In consideration of safety for performers and patrons attending indoor performances in North Hall, a mask and proof of vaccination will be required.

On Sept. 11, the Old Country Road Band will share vintage country tunes dedicated to keeping the sound of “true” country music alive on the Huntington Town Green, where Hold On Honeys, an a cappella indie folk minimalist trio will perform on Sept. 18.

The festival will end on the Town Common on Sept. 25 with Dixieland Stomp, an ensemble featuring a Mardi Gras foot-stomping performance with banjo and brass instruments.
