HCC celebrates grand reopening

Date: 3/11/2020

HOLYOKE – Students, state and local officials gathered at Holyoke Community College (HCC) during the afternoon of Feb. 28 for the Campus Center’s grand re-opening.

The center had been closed since 2017 as it underwent a $43.5 million renovation and expansion. Originally 47,000 square feet, the construction added an additional 9,000 square feet. The work also addressed leaks and water damage that had developed since the building was first opened in 1978.

Guests in attendance enjoyed live music by an HCC student quartet, food prepared by the college’s dining services and guided tours of the renovated facility. Governor Charlie Baker, state Secretary of Education Jim Peyser, HCC President Christina Royal and HCC nursing student Maiv Lee-Ruiz all offered remarks during the event. Also in attendance was state Rep. Aaron Vega, Rep. Jo Comerford, Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa, Rep. Daniel Carey, Rep. Brian Ashe and Rep. Angelo Puppolo.
