HOLYOKE — The Log Cabin, Delaney House and D. Hotel and Spa have announced Michael “Mick” Corduff as its new chief operator and executive chief of the company.
Corduff steps into the role replacing Peter Rosskothen, who sold all his shares in the company to Corduff and his new business partner, Frank DeMarinis.
“I am very excited to lead our amazing team, a team that has the best proven hospitality track record in the market,” said Corduff. Corduff added he also is looking forward to working with his wife, Dana Corduff, who will be joining the D. Hotel management.
DeMarinis is the president of Sage Engineering and Contracting Inc. in Westfield and is a local developer, builder, owner and manager of 25 plus commercial real estate properties in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He is also the founder and owner of Roots Sports complexes in Westfield and East Longmeadow and Roots Learning Center.
Corduff started as a chef for the Log Cabin back in 1997 and has since grown his role within the company leading up to this transfer of ownership. Corduff had previous experience as well working for Marriott and also having his own catering company.
“We’re like brothers more than business partners,” said Corduff on Rosskothen and their two-plus decades working together. “We joke about retirement, he’s not really retiring, he’s just stepping back from the other three businesses and going to focus on Delaney Market moving forward.”
Rosskothen and his wife Linda, who formally was on the D. Hotel management, will be stepping down from their day-to-day activities within the company. Rosskothen will continue his focus on Delaney’s Market — an independent company — with stores in South Hadley, Westfield, Longmeadow and Wilbraham.
“Both Linda and I have lived an unbelievable dream with this great group of employees and this amazing business, but the time has come to let it flourish further without us. We consider Mick a brother and we know that under his management the business will only get better,” Rosskothen said.
Corduff and DeMarinis plan to combine their skills to develop and grow the business to new locations. They share the vision of maintaining and further developing the hospitality company that is known for great food and service. He added DeMarinis brought “tremendous vision and is business savvy” to their partnership and the longtime friends are excited to take on the new role.
“Our hotel and spa, restaurant and event venue are uniquely positioned to continue benefiting from each other; synergies that no other locally owned and run company has in this area,” Corduff said. “I am proud of our brilliant team and look forward to further growing with them.”
Corduff said his goals for his new tenure is to continue delivering the reputation the Log Cabin, Delaney House and the hotel have all built and continuing it for years to come, and potentially even grow more through avenues such as catering.
“All three of them are institutions at this stage in Western Mass. and we like to consider ourselves the leaders in event business,” Corduff said.
Corduff added he hopes to maintain the high level of consistency in service for bigger events through the company such as weddings, corporate events, birthdays or other special gatherings.
“Our specialty, we like to feel, is the wedding business. It’s a really, really special day for the brides and grooms and the families that trust us to take care of their daughter’s and son’s wedding days, which are extremely special, and I want to continue delivering,” Corduff said.
He added recently Rosskothen’s daughter got married at the Log Cabin and it was dubbed “the Royal Wedding” within the company. Corduff said it was an emotional day for the staff and a reminder of what he himself hopes to deliver to any guests through any avenue of the business in the future.
“It was like everyone working there it was their daughter getting married. We watched her grow up from a little girl so to see her walking down the aisle at the Log Cabin was truly a special experience for everyone, and that’s what we do, and to see it really close to home made it more special,” Corduff said.
As Corduff eases into his new role he is ready for some adjustment but is happy to have the ability to be involved all over the company.
“I will continue on as the chief operating officer I guess is the official title, but I’ll be a man of many hats. I will always have my chef jacket and apron ready to go. I love what I do, I love my team, and I work with some brilliant chefs and managers. My sales team is just incredible. The transition has been making progress,” Corduff said.
