HOLYOKE - On July 29, dozens of residents, elected officials and friends of late Holyoke Mayor and state Sen. Martin “Marty” Dunn gathered to see his work come to fruition. The battery storage project on 50 Water St., which is a partnership between Holyoke Gas and Electric (HG&E) and Citizens Energy, was designated as the Martin J. Dunn Energy Center.
The three 53-foot containers with 158 racks and 1,896 module batteries will provide an alternative source of energy for HG&E customers throughout the day while the demand and cost of power is at its peak. Acting Holyoke Mayor Terry Murphy spoke about Dunn and said he initiated the project in 2018 and the day was seeing “his efforts come to fruition.” He then went on to declare Martin J. Dunn Day and presented Dunn’s wife, Kathy, with a formal proclamation.
Also in attendance at the event was HG&E President James Lavelle, state Rep. Patricia Duffy and Citizens Energy Vice President Michael Kennedy who joined Kathy and Murphy to officially flip the switch and turn on the battery storage project.
