PeoplesBank celebrates Earth Day with plant and seed giveaway

Date: 5/1/2023

HOLYOKE — In a celebration of Earth Day, PeoplesBank once again returned with its Simple Gardening Giveaways on April 21 at their Holyoke-Pedlar, South Hadley, Suffield and West Hartford banking centers.

The giveaway consisted of tomato plants, seeds and more all in celebration of Earth Day and as part of PeoplesBank’s concerted environmentally friendly efforts.

At the Holyoke-Pedlar location for PeoplesBank, Assistant Vice President Banking Center Manager Lauren Tabin spoke about the bank’s commitment to being environmentally friendly and giving back to the community in such a way as this event.

“This is another event in regard to support our environmental initiatives,” Tabin said. “We continue supporting green initiatives and this is just one fun way that we do it.”

Tabin added the bank has year-round efforts to be environmentally friendly. According to the bank, environmentally friendly projects it has helped make a reality include building green offices, providing free electric vehicle charging stations, sponsoring free e-recycling events and more.

The community bank has sponsored Earth Day events for the past decade as part of its corporate responsibility and community support efforts. In 2022 alone, the bank donated a record $2.3 million to civic and nonprofit causes in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

PeoplesBank has prided itself as a leader in innovation, corporate responsibility, environmental sustainability and employee engagement. To date, PeoplesBank has financed more than $350 million in wind, hydroelectric and solar energy projects.

Tabin added it is always great connecting with people who come by on gardening and the environment and the bank event serves as an education on Earth Day and overall environmental friendliness.

“For those who don’t have a green thumb, it’s just a reminder of the small piece that they can move forward with,” Tabin said. “I always find it fun talking with customers and community leaders alike in regard to what they do at home … It’s cool hearing what other people do with their gardens or recycling at home and what they implement with their family.”
