Dress for Success receives $25,000 in state funding from delegation

Date: 9/29/2021

SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Eric Lesser gathered with members of the Springfield Legislative Delegation to announce $25,000 in funding for Dress for Success Western Massachusetts on Sept 17.

Lesser stressed the lingering impacts COVID-19 placed upon the female workforce, with participation dropping to 57 percent during the pandemic, the lowest level since 1988. Along with the lower participation, 40 percent of women worked in fields deemed most at-risk to COVID-19. Executive Director of Dress for Success Margaret Tantillo called the funding an “incredible milestone,” noting that the money will go to five programs along with continuing to provide laptops and internet to women in need.

State Reps. Carols Gonzalez and Orlando Ramos spoke alongside state Sen. Adam Gomez in support of the funding. “Working collectively together, we need each other, women need to be in a position to lead. It takes a village,” said Gomez.
