Melha Riders annual run supports Shriners Children’s New England

Date: 8/15/2023

SPRINGFIELD — The Melha Riders’ 16th Annual Hospital Run will return on Sunday, Aug. 20, to raise money for Shriners Children’s New England in Springfield.

Melha Riders past President Nick Athas said the motorcyclists will begin the ride at the Polish American Club, 139 Southwick St. in Feeding Hills. The line up begins at 10 a.m. and kickstands are up at 12 p.m. The motorcyclists will ride through Shriners on Carew Street and end back at the Polish American Club for an after party at 1 p.m.

The after party is open to walk-ins — anyone can attend. There will be live music performed by the General Gist and food and drink available to purchase.

The riders must pay a $15 donation and walk-ins must pay a $10 donation for admission. Athas noted that all money goes directly to the Shriners Children’s New England.

Last year, the riders gave a check to the hospital for over $22,000 and in 2021, nearly $28,000. To date, Athas said they have given over $350,000 to Shriners.

Athas shared that they typically have about 300 to 400 riders each year.

“It’s a great day,” he said. “Anyone who rides is helping to change a child’s life.”

Athas recognized the continued and outstanding work the hospital provides on a daily basis.
