‘Movies in the Park’ returns to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Pack up some blankets and chairs and make some popcorn to accompany three weeks of entertainment with “Movies in the Park.”

From July 10 through July 28, the annual movie series will take place in three Springfield parks. The movies are free and open to the public.

The showings will all begin at 8:15 p.m. There will be no rain dates. The complete movie schedule and locations are as follows:

  • Monday, July 10 at Marshall Roy Park — "Minions: The Rise of Gru"
  • Wednesday, July 12 at Kenefick Park — “Minions: The Rise of Gru”
  • Friday, July 15 at Myrtle Street Park — “Minions: The Rise of Gru”
  • Monday, July 17 at Marshall Roy Park — “Strange World”
  • Wednesday, July 19 at Kenefick Park — “Strange World”
  • Friday, July 21 at Myrtle Street Park — “Strange World”
  • Monday, July 24 at Marshall Roy Park — “Puss in Boots”
  • Wednesday, July 26 at Kenefick Park — “Puss in Boots”
  • Friday, July 28 at Myrtle Street Park — “Puss in Boots”

Mayor Domenic Sarno said, “My administration is committed to continuing to enhance the quality of life for our residents with these types of family fun entertainment. What better way to celebrate summer than with this great family friendly activity, outdoors in our beautiful parks.”

He thanked Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management Executive Director Patrick Sullivan and his team for their efforts in making this tradition “such a tremendous success every year.”

Sullivan shared, “We appreciate Mayor Sarno’s commitment to restore programming and activities for our residents. Movies in the Park provide an opportunity for the whole family to be together under the stars and enjoying time together.”
