SPRINGFIELD — U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, Mayor Domenic Sarno and Springfield Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Amanda Pham joined local public, business and nonprofit representatives — and Springfield Thunderbirds mascot Boomer — to celebrate the annual lighting of the Christmas tree at Union Station. The festivities included a performance from the Central High School choir. This year, local organizations were also invited to design their own specialty ornaments on the tree, representing the diverse business, educational, cultural, entertainment and natural resources available in the city. Ornaments on this year’s tree include those designed by the Springfield Parks Department, the Spirit of Springfield, MGM Springfield, the YMCA of Greater Springfield, American International College, Western New England University, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, Social Haus, Peter Pan Buslines, the Hispanic-American Library, the Student Prince and the Fort, Dietz and Co. Architects, and the Thunderbirds.
