SPRINGFIELD — Approximately 100 people gathered on the steps of Springfield City Hall for the Juneteenth celebration and flag raising.
Mayor Domenic Sarno co-hosted the event with state Rep. Bud Williams (D-Springfield), who championed and sponsored making Juneteenth a holiday across the state.
Some of the other attendees and speakers included state Sen. Adam Gomez (D-Springfield), state Sen. Jake Oliveira (D-Ludlow) and state Rep. Carlos Gonzalez (D-Springfield), while Vanessa Ford performed a rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
Following the flag raising ceremony, a special musical celebration took place at Springfield Symphony Hall.
