State legislators and veteran organizations distribute coats

Date: 1/18/2022

SPRINGFIELD – In collaboration with state Sen. Adam Gomez, state Rep. Jacob Oliveira, state Rep. Orlando Ramos and the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, the Coats4Vets program made its return on Jan. 14 at 1530 Boston Rd. The event welcomed veterans across the community to sign up and receive a free coat. Oliveira, pictured above, said the program is distributing 500 coats to provide continual assistance for the veteran community. “We want to make sure veterans are protected from the winter weather,” said Oliveira. The gathering included participation from the Springfield Fire Department, the Springfield Democratic Committee and the Springfield Empowerment Center among several other state and locally-ran veteran service offices.

Director of the Springfield Empowerment Center Christian Bach spoke about outreaching to veterans across the community in a collaborative effort. “We don’t turn anyone away, we want anyone who can help to be involved,” said Bach.
