WESTFIELD – The theme of the 2022 Wyben Parade is freedom.
“With the conflict and unrest in the world, the Wyben Fourth of July Parade Committee felt ‘Freedom’ was a fitting message as we enjoy our freedom on the Fourth by being in or watching the parade with family and friends,” said Parade Committee member Sue Crane.
Participants in the parade are asked to line up at the junction of Montgomery and North roads beginning at 4:30 p.m. on July 4. The parade will step off at 5 p.m., and run along Montgomery Road to West Road.
Antique cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, quads and decorated floats are welcome to join the parade. The committee would love to see walkers dressed in vintage attire and musicians playing their instruments, Crane said.
Members of the Westfield Police and Fire departments will ride in their cars and fire engines. American Legion Post 124, active military from Westfield Barnes Regional Airport and elected officials such as Mayor Michael McCabe, state Sen. John Velis, state Rep. Kelly Pease and Ward 1 Councilor Nicholas Morganelli Jr. will march.
Wyben’s own Ed Bentley will sing and play guitar on a hay wagon pulled by a tractor. All acts are welcome to join, march and celebrate this Independence Day.
“A handmade banner is being made as a reminder of why freedom is vital to all of us,” Crane added.
The parade is a much-anticipated yearly event in the Wyben neighborhood of Westfield’s North Side, and always takes place on July 4, rain or shine.
