| By Erin O'Connor Staff Writer WESTFIELD A Painter's Garden Art Exhibit and Artist Reception, Nov. 4, at the Westfield Athenaeum, will display the work of Joan Eggers produced during the "Memories in the Making" Alzheimer's Art Expression Program of the YMCA of Greater Westfield. Jacque Sears teaches the art class on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Sears said they are seeking more applicants that would be interested in signing up for the art program. Joan Eggers a former nurse and long time artist returned to artistic expression when she recently moved to Massachusetts from Florida. That is when I "got into it again," Eggers said. Sears said that she was asked by a local library to facilitate the class. Sears refers to Eggers fondly as "Joanie." "I love to hang with Joanie it is a wonderful time. She has a flare, a twist to her wrist. She always does it better than me," Sears said in explaining Eggers' painting style. "We are trying to get more members. You just have to come and express yourself and have fun," Sears said. "Art is a wonderful way to heal and comfort if you love color." "I live in a condo and somebody saw something I painted and it seems that everyone knows who I am," Eggers said in speaking of her experiences with fame. "My mother use to paint," Eggers said. Sears has trained with different artists in the area. She has been painting since 2000. She is a freelance writer and a mother of three. "For people that are interested in painting you don't have to be trained anyone can paint. I will show you. It is a passionate distraction," Sears said. For more information about the artist's reception or joining the class call Roseanne Scalise at 568-8631. The program is sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter YMCA at 153 Magazine Street. |
