WESTFIELD – City residents can drop-off their live Christmas trees for disposal after the holidays.
The city used to collect trees curbside, but began drop-off sites several years ago. The sites are monitored to get an accurate count on how many trees are collected to ensure that there is space for further drop-offs.
The city repurposes the trees by chipping them and using the wood chips for landscaping.
Trees must be bare – all lights and other decorations must be removed.
Trees can be dropped off Jan. 2-15 at the following locations and times:
City Hall, 59 Court St. back parking lot seven days, 24 hours; Hampton Ponds Playground, 121 Old Stage Road seven days, 24 hours; Highway Garage, DPW, 12 Ponders Hollow Road 7 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday – Friday; Little River Fire Station, 366 Little River Road, back parking area seven days, 24 hours; Twiss Street Transfer Station, 37 Twiss St., no sticker needed, Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
