WESTFIELD – Amid the pandemic this holiday season, ArtWorks Westfield has worked to bring light, recognition and joy to the community. As part of that effort, an online youth art show has begun, running until Dec. 25.
Shannon Chiba, board member of ArtWorks told Reminder Publishing that this is the second year the event will take place. Last year, the art show took place at the Boys and Girls Club and was very successful, according to Chiba. Children who participated received art supplies, gifts and trophies to commend their efforts.
COVID-19 has altered this year’s plans, forcing the art show to go strictly online. Chiba fears for the online attendance but remains hopeful for participants.
The main purpose of the art show is for children to share their work with others. “It is celebrating art of every kind that children make and shows hidden talents that they possess,” said Chiba.
Participants may include children up to 18 years of age residing in Westfield. A parent or guardian is responsible for taking a picture of the design and sharing it to ArtWorks Westfield Facebook page, with a name or age.
Facebook accounts are required for submissions.
After Dec. 25, winners will be announced and prizes will be given out.
Chiba said, “The winner is determined by the most likes on social media. We will also be giving out prizes for great creativity, color and more.”
Chiba is responsible for delivering these prizes to the homes of the top 16 winners. To assure safety guidelines and regulations, items will be placed in mailboxes or left on the doorstep.
Chiba said, “It’s so beautiful and simple to see their potential. It enlivens the city; next generation – we should all value art and culture.”
ArtWorks plans to host this show annually as long as there’s interest.
