WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School band will be teaming up with the Beatlemania stage show, playing songs from every era of the Beatles, in an event titled “Keep Music Education Alive” to benefit the high school’s music education program in its auditorium on Jan. 31.
The performance will include costume changes and authentic Beatles instruments from professional musicians that have performed and written songs with famous groups such as Kiss, Billy Joel, Hall and Oates and more.
Matt Morash, a senior at Westfield High School, said he will be performing in his second Beatlemania show after taking part in the last one in 2016.
“It was really fun, I liked being able to hear the music live from the Beatles,” he said.
He added that practices are going well. “It’s not super hard and we have the backing track to play with so it’s gone well so far,” he said.
Sam Adamtsev, a freshman, said that she is happy that the band gets the opportunity to play something different.
“It’s different music than what we usually play in band, so I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun. Usually we don’t play along with vocals,” she said.
Caitlynn Thomson, a junior, said she was excited to play music from the Beatles. She explained, “The Beatles are my favorite band and I’m excited to play these songs in front of people.”
She added that the concert could only benefit the band and said, “There’s no lose here, it’s a win, win, win situation. The band gets money, we get to play some awesome music, and people get to see an awesome show.”
Jake Diaz, a sophomore, said he will play three of his favorite songs as part of the performance. “I’m looking forward to hearing three of my favorite songs in ‘Octopus’s Garden,’ ‘Hey Jude,’ and ‘Come Together’,” he said.
He added that the audience should be excited for the show and said, “It’s going to be cool to hear some really good music that you most likely know the words to and can sing along.”
Pat Kennedy, Westfield High School’s band teacher noted what a fantastic opportunity this is for students, stating, “The music is great, the Beatlemania musicians are amazing and I can’t wait for the kids to be on stage with them.”
