WILBRAHAM — Mall Barbers has relocated from the Eastfield Mall to 2440 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Owner Maria Gomes, her husband Hector Gomes and co-worker Alicia Paquette were welcomed to the new location with a citation from the state House of Representatives and Rep. Angelo Puppolo, presented by his aide Cheryl Spinks. District Director Jennifer Pickering congratulated Gomes on behalf of state Sen. Jacob Oliveira.
Mall Barbers was a fixture of the Eastfield Mall since the 1960s and Gomes began working there in 1979. The business needed to move after the Eastfield Mall decided to close its doors for good earlier this year.
“We lived under the rumors for over 10 years,” Gomes said. It was important to her that the business stay located on Boston Road because more than 60% of the business’s customers are from the Wilbraham area.
“I am blessed,” Gomes said. Wilbraham “worked with us to get the paperwork. They’ve been so welcoming.” The town used a total of $15,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funding to help Mall Barbers and former Eastfield Mall tenant School of Fish relocate to Wilbraham.
