WILBRAHAM — “And here we are!” announced Board of Selectmen Chair Carolyn Brennan at the groundbreaking for the new Wilbraham Senior Center, behind the Town Hall at 240 Springfield St. Brennan, who has been involved in the project since its inception 12 years ago, remarked, “What a journey it has been.”
Senior Center Building Committee members Karl Jurgen, Linda Cooper Dennis Lopata and Chair George Fontaine were joined by state Sen. Jake Oliviera, state Rep. Angelo Puppolo, President of the Friends of Wilbraham Seniors Matthew Villamaino, and Brennan, Board of Seletmen Vice Chair Theresa Goodrich and Clerk Sue Bunnell donned hard hats and ceremonially “broke ground” on the new building on Feb. 10.
Maria Cacela, vice president of the Friends of Wilbraham Seniors, said, “Our town will be judged on how we treat our young people and our seniors.”
Oliviera said the new Wilbraham Senior Center will be a “hub of activity” to ensure that seniors age with dignity.” Puppolo reflected on the number of officials, committees and boards that kept the commitment to realizing the project. He said the facility would be “a feather in the cap of our town of Wilbraham.”
