Explanation Wanted

In our Massachusetts legislature where Democrats have a 9 to 1 majority, a single vote seldom makes a difference, but Wednesday, June 3, was different. On a tie vote, the legislature defeated a measure to eliminate Evacuation Day and Bunker Hill Day, two paid holidays for Boston state and municipal employees. Representative Brian Ashe voted with Boston politicians to keep these extra days off; other Springfield representatives voted to do away with them.

Representative Ashe's vote made the difference. Those holidays cost the state millions of dollars in holiday pay, lost work and overtime expenses, money that is desperately needed for local aid and other budget purposes. He should explain this shameful vote.
