Fourth of July Parade Committee needs help

Date: 6/12/2014

The committee needs your assistance. Specifically, it needs people to step up and volunteer, as parade marshals and banner carriers. This request is in addition to the previous report of new people helping to create your favorite local event.

Parade Co-chairman Carl Ohlin and Ryan Quimby are advising banner carriers are needed and can be children who are at least middle school age. Middle school students should sign up with their parent’s permission.

High school students who wish to be either banner carriers or parade marshals can receive community service time toward graduation. See Mr. Maccarini in the Career Center. All students, both at the middle school and high school need to sign up before the end of the school year.

Parade marshals help the committee form up and run the parade on July 4th. Marshals are required to attend a meeting held a couple of days before the parade. During the meeting, they will be notified as to their assignment and who they will be working with along with the current parade line up.

Organizations who have been in the parade last year, will be receiving their final orders in mid-June by mail. Be sure to provide the committee with information about your organization/group, so that they can receive proper recognition when they pass the reviewing stand.

The parade theme this year is “Stars & Stripes Forever”. Remember the theme when you prepare your parade entry when decorating. This theme should bring out the “red, white & blue” as we celebrate our nation’s independence.

Veterans of all wars and conflicts are invited to participate in the parade. It is our way of recognizing you for your service to our nation.

Men and women, veterans and active members from all branches of the military are encouraged to wear their uniforms, so as to provide notoriety of your service to our country.

Anyone interested in either being a banner carrier, parade marshal, committee member, or are a veteran and want to be part of the parade should contact Ryan Quimby at 525-5400 extension 1901 or Carl Ohlin at 525-2952.

You can also sign up to volunteer for the parade by clicking on the “Volunteer” tab under the committee’s website.

Anyone who wants to participate in the parade can access the participation forms on line at www.eastlongmeadowma.gov. Look for 4th of July under the “Living In” section.

Keep up to date on parade information year round. Go to the committee’s website at www.eastlongmeadowma.gov.
