Greyhounds need homes

Date: 12/7/2009

Since 1995, Greyhound Options Inc., based in Ware, has been finding responsible homes for retired racing Greyhounds in Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. The group does not operate a kennel but has many generous and loving foster families who care for the dogs in their homes until a permanent adoption is made.

The greyhounds are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, given a dental cleaning and put on heartworm preventative. Most importantly, the dogs begin to learn about life off the race track and this leads to more successful placements. Home visits are made to prospective families to give them a chance to learn more about the breed and ask all the questions they may have before they decided to adopt.

Greyhound Options has several greyhounds available for adoption from the two Massachusetts tracks that are closing at the end of the year and will continue to do so until all the retired dogs find homes. More information can be found at www.greyhoundoptions.org.
