Looking for a few good men

Date: 9/17/2012

Recently, the co-founder of the ITAM-Vets, East Longmeadow, passed away. Peter Verteramo, fondly known as "Uncle Pete," started the Italian-American War Veterans Post 64 some 56 years ago.

Through the years, "the ITAMs," along with the American Legion have run the Memorial Day and Veteran's Day ceremonies for the Town of East Longmeadow. We also donate money to needy charities and to the E.L.H.S. Scholarship Fund. We have a large membership and most of our members are non-veterans who are a big help to the post. But what we need is more veteran membership. Most of our active veteran members who take an active part in the functions of this post are well up thee in age. What we need are newer and younger member to join and help is maintain and preserve our veterans post status.

All over the country, veterans posts are closing or dwindling down to becoming non-existent. We are looking for any veterans who are willing to take an active part in helping us to keep Post 64 a a functioning veterans' post.

It would be a shame to see what "Uncle Pete" started more than 56 years ago become non-existent. Please contact Carmine DiFranco, Post Commander, at 592-0429.
