Abdow twins post strong results at Eastern Juniors

LONGMEADOW – Thirteen-year-old twins Lauren A. Abdow and Alex G. Abdow competed at the Eastern Junior Championships held at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, VT, achieving great results. The event took place March 13 to 16 during the course of four days.

Both Longmeadow residents were representing Stratton Mountain School and the Vermont Alpine Racing Association. The teens are both students of Stratton Mountain School (SMS) in Stratton, VT. Both took top 10 finishes in both Giant Slalom (GS) and Super G; with Lauren winning silver in GS.

For her performance, Lauren was one of five Eastern Region U14 girls that was selected to compete up against the older U16 age group at U16 Nationals in Sugarloaf, Maine on March 30 – April 4. She will join five U14 girls each from the West Region and The Rocky Mountain Region.

Due to his performance, Alex qualified to represent the USA and compete in U14 CanAms at Mt. Tremblant, Canada March 26 to 29.

The Eastern Junior Championships brings together competitive racers from eastern states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont and the Virginia region. Each athlete had to qualify for the Eastern Championships by achieving top results in their respective states. All 80 girls and 85 boys competed for individual awards in four disciplines; Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Skills Quest.

Stratton Mountain School is a ski and snowboard academy located at the base of Stratton Mountain. SMS serves students in grades seven to 12. The SMS community of students, faculty, coaches and staff share the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
