Date: 7/23/2014

SPRINGFIELD – The American International College (AIC) football team has announced its schedule for the 2014 fall season featuring 10 games including nine Northeast-10 (NE-10) tilts.

Head coach Art Wilkins led the Yellow Jackets to an 8-2 regular season mark last season, 8-1 in conference play, before defeating Stonehill in the NE-10 Championship game, 27-17, earning them a bid to play in the NCAA Championship against West Chester and finished the year 9-3 overall.

Wilkins enters his 21st season with an overall career coaching record of 128-79 (.618), 108-40 (.730) in conference play, and five conference championships (1999, 2000, 2008, and 2014).

The Yellow Jackets kickoff the season on the road at Assumption on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The Greyhounds handed AIC its lone conference loss of 2013 in dramatic fashion, 26-23.

The following week, AIC heads to Division I-A Stony Brook Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. before their home opener, a NE-10 Championship rematch against Stonehill Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at Ronald J. Abdow Field, one of four home games slated.

Oct. 18 marks the homecoming game, this year playing host to New Haven at 1 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up the regular season at home against Pace Nov. 8, which will also serve as Senior Day.

The third annual NE-10 Championship Weekend is slated for Nov. 15, opponent, location, and kickoff time to be determined.

In addition to the top two teams in the conference battling for the NE-10 title, games will be played between the No. 3 and 4 seeds and then the No. 5 team will host the No. 10 seed, while No. 6 will host No. 9 and No. 7 will host No. 8.

Head coach Fred Balbino enters his 18th season at the helm, compiling an overall record of 109-170-26, the winningest coach in program history.

He led the Yellow Jackets to a 6-8-3 mark last season, 4-7-2 in conference play.

AIC opens the season with four non-conference tilts beginning with the home opener against Felician Sept. 4 at Abdow Field at 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets then hit the road for three straight non-conference games at the New York Institute of Technology, Mercy, and Georgian Court, before opening NE-10 play for the second straight year against Adelphi Sept. 16.

The team will play three of its eight home games in-a-row when Saint Michael’s (Sept. 27), New Haven (Sept. 30), and the defending Division II National Champions Southern New Hampshire (Oct. 3) visit Abdow Field.

Senior Day will take place on Oct. 25 against Merrimack and the Yellow Jackets will end its regular season on the road at Saint Anselm (Oct. 31).
