AIC standout defender Fitzsimmons signs on with Mutiny

SPRINGFIELD – On March 17, American International College women’s soccer defender Alie Fitzsimmons signed on to play with the New England Mutiny this summer.

Fitzsimmons was a first-team All-American and Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and scored one goal with six assists for eight points.

The Mutiny are one of the premier teams in the WPSL, having won the Eastern Conference last year. The roster features players from Notre Dame, Boston University, Quinnipiac, and Providence College. The Mutiny play at East Longmeadow High School.

Gervais finishes 13th at NCAAs

LINCOLN, Neb. - Westfield State University senior Targie Gervais of Springfield participated in the NCAA Division III women's indoor track and field championships on March 14 and 15.

Gervais placed 13th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.77. She had entered the championship meet as the No. 13 seed with a time of 7.78.

Mustafa leads WNE tennis past UMass Boston

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Graduate student and team tri-captain Linda Mustafa of West Springfield earned two points to lead the Western New England University women's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 non-conference win over the University of Massachusetts Boston on March 17.

Mustafa was victorious at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles along with co-captain Kelsey Grode.

LeBlanc, Mann compete at Dowling Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Tommy LeBlanc of Springfield finish at 164, a stroke ahead of Ben Mann of Holyoke at the Dowling Invitational at Bear Trap Dunes on March 16.

Sheridan posts big day for WSU

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Connor Sheridan of South Hadley had a big day at the plate as the WSU baseball team swept Babson College 2-1 and 11-9 in a double header on March 15.

Sheridan went 1 for three and scored the winning run in game one, then went 4 for 5 with an RBI and four runs scored, including the go-ahead run in the 12th inning of game two.

Kyle Murphy of Westfield went 1 for 2 and scored the tying run in the second game.

Miele cards 82 as Elms golf team places second at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman Chris Miele of South Hadley shot an 82 and the Elms College men’s golf team carded a combined score of 338 to place second in Myrtle Beach Shootout at Barefoot Golf Resort on March 13.

Freshman Brian Benson of Agawam registered a score of 93.

Blazers softball caps Gene Cusic Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Ally Witaszek of Feeding Hills led off the fourth inning with a single and later scored, finishing the day 1 for 3 as the Elms College softball team lost to Ohio Wesleyan University 10-2 on March 12, the Blazers’ final day at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Witaszek was also 1 for 3 in the Blazers’ 3-1 over the College of Wooster earlier in the day.

A day earlier, Springfield’s Gina Digiovani reached base four times (one hit, three walks), stole two bases and scored three runs in an 8-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Yellow Jackets top Adelphi

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Agawam’s Dan Fenton was 3 for 5 at the plate with a stolen base and two runs scored and Dan Asselin of Chicopee recorded an RBI double as the American International College baseball team topped Adelphi 5-2 on March 13.

Lopez-Perez wields hot bat in AIC win

CLERMONT, Fla. – Yamilette Lopez-Perez of Springfield was a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI as the American International College softball team beat St. Thomas Aquinas 11-2 on March 13.
