SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield College football program is excited to announce the addition of Lou Conte ‘05 G '10 to its coaching staff for the 2015 season.

“We are fortunate to have Coach Conte return to our staff,” said head coach Mike DeLong.  “He has gained tremendous option experience in his time while coaching at both the Division II and FCS levels and we are looking forward to him helping our quarterbacks and offense continue to evolve.”

A native of Agawam, Conte returns to his alma mater after spending last season as the slot backs coach at The Citadel, which competes in the Southern Conference at the Football Championship Series (FCS) level.

Prior to his position at The Citadel, Conte spent three seasons at Lenoir-Rhyne University, and helped lead the Bears to a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2013.

Under his direction, Conte guided the Bears’ offense to the top rushing attack in Division II, averaging 370.9 yards per game, while setting the NCAA record for all divisions in rushing yards in a season with 5,563.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Conte was the defensive coordinator at Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, in 2010, where he also served as assistant athletic director, sports information director, physical education teacher, junior varsity wrestling and assistant varsity lacrosse coach.

Conte was a graduate assistant coach at Springfield College for two seasons (2008-09) and served as assistant head coach (2005-07) and head men’s lacrosse coach at Maine Maritime Academy for three years from 2006-08.

As a graduate assistant, Springfield won the ECAC Northeast Championship Bowl Game in 2009.

A three-year letter winner on the Springfield football team which captured the FFC Conference championship twice (2002 and 2003) and the ECAC championship in 2004, Conte was a key member of Springfield’s squad that was ranked the top team in the East Region and ranked No. 4 nationally in 2004.

Conte is a 2005 graduate of Springfield and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the American Football Coaches Association and United States Lacrosse.
