Date: 7/23/2014

FREDONIA, N.Y. – John Estanislau of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, a member of the Fredonia University men’s swimming and diving team the past four years, has been named Honorable Mention Scholar All-America by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Estanislau is among 100 men from NCAA Division III programs – and the only one from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) – cited by the CSCAA. Honorees attained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or a cumulative average of 3.5 or higher, and achieved a “B” time standard but did not compete in the national championship meet.

Holder of numerous Fredonia team swimming records, Estanislau graduated in May with a spring semester grade-point average of 3.81.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in music industry and a minor in web programming. Prior to graduating, he was initiated into the inaugural class of the Fredonia chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He is the son of Carolyn and Peter Estanislau.

It is the second time this year Estanislau has received a collegiate award that combines both athletic and academic achievement.

In February at the conference championship meet, he won the 2014 SUNYAC James Fulton Award, given annually to a senior male who received past All SUNYAC honors, showed improvement over four seasons, and excelled academically.

He is only the third Blue Devil ever and the first in 26 years to win the Fulton Award.
