Felix earns accolades from MASCAC, NEWBA and ECAC

WESTFIELD – After one of the best stretches of her career, Gabby Felix of Springfield was showered with accolades on Jan. 13 and 14.

Felix was named New England Women’s Basketball Association and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week, it was announced on Jan. 13. She added Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference New England Division III Player of the Week honors the following day.

The Commerce High School alum averaged 21.3 points and 13 rebounds per game in the Owls’ three victories last week.

Felix was dominant on Jan. 11, recording career highs of 27 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Westfield State University (WSU) women’s basketball team to a 61-53 MASCAC win over host Bridgewater State University.

Felix connected on 11 of 23 field goals attempts and five of her 20 boards came off the offensive glass. She also added two blocked shots and a steal.

Felix also just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds as WSU earned a 76-71 come-from-behind victory over Framingham State University in its MASCAC opener on Jan. 9.

Felix scored 11 points and recorded six rebounds in the second half after she was sidelined with early foul trouble and only played five first-half minutes.

Feeding Hills’ Alycia Rackliffe had 14 points and eight rebounds for Framingham State in that game.

After winning the award, Felix was strong inside for Westfield State in a 56-49 win over Castleton State College on Jan. 14, pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds, scoring 10 points and blocking a pair of shots.
