Gervais qualifies for NCAAs in 60 meters, Monahan named rookie of the week

BOSTON – Springfield natives Targie Gervais (second, 60 meter dash) and freshman Ashley Monahan (eighth, 1,000 meter run) both earned All-ECAC honors while representing Westfield State University at the conference’s indoor track and field championships. which took place March 7 and 8 at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Gervais was clocked in 7.81 seconds in the 60 meter finals, while Monahan crossed the line in 3:05.45. With the time, Gervais qualified for the NCAA Division III women’s indoor track and field championships on March 14 and 15. The performances also earned Monahan Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference rookie of the week honors, while Gervais was named to the weekly honor roll.

Southwick’s Zack Madera finished 15th in the 60 meter dash in 7.09 and 26th in the 200 meter dash in 22.96 for the men’s team.

Alex Niemiec of Chicopee took 14th in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches and was part of the 4x200 relay team that combined for a time of 1:32.52, good for 25th overall for the Springfield College men’s team.

Kimeisha Winkle of Springfield was a member of a Springfield College women’s 4x200 relay team that finished 21st overall in 4:03.16.

Dickinson records first collegiate goal

SPRINGFIELD – Freshman Ryan Dickinson of South Hadley scored his first collegiate goal as the Western New England University men’s lacrosse team topped Trinity College 10-5 on March 11.

Rheault, Circosta pace Owls’ offense

CLERMONT, Fla. – Faith Rheault of Agawam went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Paige Circosta of Feeding Hills scored two runs in the WSU softball team’s 10-2 win over Webster University on March 11 in a split day during which the Owls also fell to WPI 5-1.

Rheault also drove in a run in the second game.

Fenton drives in two in AIC win

LANTANA, Fla. – Dan Fenton of Agawam had a good day at the plate, hitting 3 of 5 and knocking in two runs and the American International College baseball team survived a late Bloomfield rally in a 7-4 win on March 11.

Yellow Jackets fall to Molloy

SPRINGFIELD – Justin Bard of Westfield scored two goals and assisted two others, while West Springfield’s Bobby Spano recorded three points (two goals, one assist), but the American International College men’s lacrosse team fell to Molloy 14-8 on March 11.

Malone kills eight in Pride’s sweep of Marymount

SPRINGFIELD – Ryan Malone of Chicopee recorded eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage as the Springfield College men’s volleyball team hit a season-best .632 as it breezed past Marymount University in straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-18) on March 10.

DiGiovani knocks in Blazers’ first run of the year

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Gina DiGiovanni of Springfield went 2 for 3 with a stolen base and an RBI, good for the Blazers’ first run of the season, as Elms College softball team fell to the University of Pittsburg-Bradford, 8-1 in the Gene Cusic Classic on March 9.

Farnsworth knocks in two, scores two for Elms College

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sam Farnsworth of Westfield went 3 for 5 with two runs scored, and two RBI in a 6-5 loss to Scranton at the Gene Cusic Classic on March 8.

He also drove in a pair with a double to left center field in an 11-3 loss to Baldwin Wallace on March 10.
