Local college teams announce upcoming schedules

SPRINGFIELD – American International College (AIC) head men’s ice hockey coach Gary Wright also recently released the 2014-15 schedule featuring 34 games including 28 Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) tilts.

Wright enters his 31st season as the Yellow Jackets head coach, leading the team to a 10-25-1 (9-17-1 AHA) mark last season and earning his 300th career win, a 2-1 victory over Army on Feb. 11.

To go along with a tough AHA schedule, Wright has scheduled three Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) opponents and a weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan, against the Wolverines of the University of Michigan in storied Yost Arena.

“We are most excited about our new schedule. As always, we have a terrific Atlantic Hockey schedule and our non-conference games are outstanding. I know our players are anxious to start playing these games,” Wright said.

The Yellow Jackets will see its action of the season against the defending NCAA Division I National Champion Union College squad. Prior to the game, the Dutchmen will unveil their championship banner.  

AIC’s home opener features a weekend with Canisius College Oct. 24 and 25 at the Olympia Ice Center.

For the second straight year AIC will play the Minutemen of the University of Massachusetts (Nov. 7) followed the next weekend with a trip to Michigan. Also filling the non-conference slate will be trips Dartmouth (Nov. 29) and Clarkson (Dec. 30) of ECAC Hockey.

The Yellow Jackets will face in-conference foes Air Force, Army, Canisius, and defending AHA Champs Robert Morris four times throughout the course of 2014-15.

AIC women’s volleyball head coach Matt Cribbin has released the upcoming 2014 season slate featuring 28 games and three tournaments.

Cribbin enters his third season on the bench for the Yellow Jackets, compiling a 30-30 (.500) overall record and 16-13 (.552) mark in Northeast-10 matches. He has directed AIC to the postseason in each of his first two seasons, while the team has reached the postseason every year since 2008 including a trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament in 2010.

AIC will kick-off its season at the East Stroudsburg Invitational the weekend of Sept. 6 against host ESU, Bowie State, and Fairmont, and Wilmington (Delaware).

The following weekend the Yellow Jackets head south for the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational hosted by Texas A&M University.

AIC opens their home and 14-match NE-10 slate up against Stonehill College Sept. 16 before hosting the annual AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational beginning the following Friday.

The home invitational features fellow NE-10 programs Franklin Pierce, New Haven, and Saint Rose, as well as regional foes, Wilmington and Nyack.

AIC will host 12 games at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium including a seven-match span from Sept. 16 to the Saint Anselm tilt  Sept. 27.

Thirteen-year head coach Andrea Daley has announced the 2014-15 Western New England University women’s swimming schedule, which is highlighted by four home meets at the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC) and the first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational to start the season on Oct. 18.

After making a splash in the season debut at the CCC Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, the Golden Bears will travel to Providence, Rhode Island, on Oct. 31 to square off against Rhode Island College in their first dual meet.

Western New England will stay on the road at Gordon College on Nov. 15 before making its AHLC home debut versus Western Connecticut State University on  Nov. 21.

The Golden Bears will compete at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, on Dec. 6, to close the fall semester.

Elms College and Westfield State University will invade the AHLC pool on Jan. 14 and 18, respectively, to ring in the New Year 2015.

Western New England will have its home finale on Jan. 31, 2015, against University of Saint Joseph-Connecticut sandwiched between road dates at Simmons College (Jan. 24, 2015) and Eastern Connecticut State University (Feb. 7, 2015).

The three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championships – tentatively set for Feb. 14 to 16, at the University of Rhode Island – will serve as the season finale for the Golden Bears.

Making its debut last season, the Golden Bear Sports Network plans to stream for free live home events again on WNEGoldenBears.tv in 2014-15.
