Pioneers name coach

Date: 12/22/2015

LUDLOW – The Western Mass Pioneers recently announced Federico Molinari would return to coach the team.

Molinari played six seasons for the Pioneers (2003, 2006 to 2010) and was the Western Mass head coach from 2012 to 2014. Molinari left the Pioneers in 2015 to coach the Western Mass Pro Soccer team, which reached the finals and lost in penalty kicks.

“I’m very excited to rejoin the Pioneers,” stated Molinari. “We have a lot of work to do to bring in players that want to improve their game and get results on the field. Our goal is to make the playoffs and to qualify for the 2017 US Open Cup.”

Dennis Gomes will return as Molinari’s assistant coach. Gomes was Pioneers head coach in 2015, and has been a longtime assistant working with Molinari. “I look forward to help develop future professional soccer players this season with Federico” Gomes replied.

The Pioneers will host tryouts on Jan 9, 2016, 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $50, and it includes the training session along with a Pioneers t-shirt.

“We are hoping to get a good turnout and maybe identify some guys that can help us this year,” commented Pioneers general manager Greg Kolodziey. “We just got back from the USL league meetings finalizing the schedule and getting ready for the 2016 season. We need to have a good team this year.”
