Skaters slide to the podium

Members of the Little Sun Valley Skating Club in Springfield have been keeping quite busy on the competition circuit this summer by participating in several regional events.

Sarah Varanka of Hampden was the silver medalist in the pre-preliminary freestyle event at the Charter Oak Open. The July event was held at the International Skating Center of Connecticut, one of New England's premier skating centers.

Brianna Brennan of Holyoke won the gold medal in basic 8 elements and the silver medal in basic free style program.

Jenna Langevin of Springfield brought home the gold in free style 2 program and the silver in free style 2 compulsory moves.

Juliette Zienlinski of Ludlow stood atop the podium in silver medal position for both free skate 1 compulsory moves and free skate 1 program.

Shannon Caldwell of Springfield skated her way to a silver medal for free skate 2 program and a bronze medal for free skate 2 compulsory moves.

Rebecca Mahoney of Chicopee skated to the silver medal position in basic 7 compulsory moves.

At the Lighthouse Figure Skating Club's basic skills competition in Dennis, Mass., on Aug. 12, LSV skaters captured several medals.

Brennan won the gold medal in basic 8 program and the bronze in basic 8 compulsory moves.

Zienlinski found herself atop the medals stand winning gold for free style 1 compulsory moves and free style 1 program.

Langevin spun her way to silver medal position for free style 2 compulsory moves as well as free style 2 program.
