Volleyball Hall of Fame announces 2014 All Stars

HOLYOKE – The Volleyball Hall of Fame (VHF) is proud to announce the third Annual Spalding Western Massachusetts Boys High School Volleyball All-Star Team.

The 24 players selected for first team honors are from 12 high schools throughout Western Massachusetts. Each of the players will be invited to play in the Spalding Boys All-Star Volleyball Skills Competition and Game presented by the Volleyball Hall of Fame.

Local first team All-Stars are:?Temi Bailey, middle back (MB), West Springfield;  Tyler Bastos, setter (S), Ludlow; Xavier Brown-Rose, outside hitter (OH), Minnechaug; Ryan Bucko, MB, Westfield; Sean Buxton, MB, Chicopee Comprehensive; Nelson Cabral, OH, Holyoke; Ben Cassidy, OH, Agawam; Bailey Cecchi, OH, Agawam; Alon Chappel, MB, Sabis; Abi Cruz, MB, Sci-Tech; Phu Do, libero (L), Chicopee Comprehensive; Josiah Douglas, OH, Chicopee Comprehensive; Sean Fournier, OH, Ludlow; Zach Goggin, S, Agawam; Manny Golob, OH, Westfield; Tom Hinchey, OH, East Longmeadow; Colter Krzuik, OH, Belchertown; James Kukharchuk, S, West Springfield; Iliya Potsuray, L, West Springfield; Wade Robideaux, MB, Agawam; and Ivan Zuev, L, Westfield.

The event will take place at the Ludlow High School Gymnasium, located at 500 Chapin St., on  June 17 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students/seniors and includes the All-Star Game, Skills Competition, DJ entertainment, and more.

New this year, is the announcement of the Western Massachusetts Player of the Year.

“The 40 players selected for first- and second-team honors represent some of the very best student-athletes in Western Massachusetts,” VHF Executive Director George Mulry said. “I am very excited that, together with Spalding, we can put on such a wonderful family event to showcase their great achievements.”

Selected players were chosen by a committee consisting of local coaches, officials, and the media. Players from defending state champion and perennial powerhouse Agawam led all honors having four players named first team all-stars.
