Winter Games slated for Berkshires

The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation (MASF) is excited to announce that registration for the 2007 Bay State Winter Games will open Nov. 1. The year 2007 marks the 22nd year of this annual olympic-style amateur sporting event. Feb. 2 through Feb. 4, individual competitions in Alpine Skiing and Figure Skating, and team competition in Masters Ice Hockey will take place.

Since its inception, Berkshire County has played host for all events in the Bay State Winter Games. Athletes participating in the Winter Games represent over 200 Massachusetts communities, and range in age from 9-60.

The 2007 Figure Skating competition will take place at Williams College in Williamstown and features both ISI and UFSF competition for males and females ages 9 and up. Masters Ice Hockey will be played in two divisions, 40+ and 50+, at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Arena in North Adams, MA. Alpine Skiing is for participants in 9th - 12th grade as of the 2006-2007 academic year. All alpine races will be held at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA.

On Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m., the Bay State Skate Show will take place at Williams College. The show will feaure Bay State Games Gold Medal winners, regional figure skating champions, and a special feature skater. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased at local Berkshire businesses or by contacting the Bay State Games.
