WSU offensive line earns national honor

WESTFIELD – Wilbraham natives Eddie Fallon and Kyle Seidnitzer were part of the Westfield State University (WSU) offensive line that was recognized as the D3football.com national “Team of the Week” for their performance in a season opening 30-22 win over Nichols College on Sept. 5.

Fallon and Seidnitzer paved the way for a career high 195 yards rushing from senior tailback Michael Mercadante, also from Wilbraham. The team rushed for 288 yards and mounted 446 yards of total offense while allowing just one sack.

Pereira twice named to MASCAC men’s soccer honor roll
BUZZARDS BAY – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts men’s soccer forward Dylan Pereira of Ludlow, was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly honor roll on Sept. 8 and 15.

Pereira scored the game-winner in the Trailblazers’ 3-2 win over Castleton State College and collected a goal and an assist in the Trailblazers’ 3-2 setback at Sage College.

Dom Cavallini, a WSU men’s soccer forward from Springfield,  joined Pereira on the Sept. 8 list netted a goal in the Owls’ 2-2 tie at Albertus Magnus College.

Fellow Ludlow native Derek Alves, a Worcester State midfielder, was also on the Sept. 13 list after he netted a goal on a penalty kick in the second half of the Lancers’ 1-1 double overtime draw with the University of Southern Maine.

Mercadante earns second MASCAC honor of 2014
BUZZARDS BAY – WSU football running back Michael Mercadante of Wilbraham was honored by the MASCAC for the second week in a row, earning a spot on the offensive weekly honor roll after he rushed for 123 yards with two touchdowns on 32 carries in the Owls’ 17-14 loss to Western New England University on Sept. 13.
