Staff Intern Whoever said chivalry is dead was dead wrong. There are modern day knights but they're armed with romantic verses and a dozen roses rather than suits of armor. What woman wouldn't want a quartet of nicely dressed men serenading her with a love song or two on Valentine's Day? Well, it could happen. The Barbershop Harmony Society, through its local affiliate, The Pioneer Valley Chordsmen, is taking orders now through Feb. 12 to send a quartet of men to sing a love song to that special someone. They can also bring along gifts such as roses, chocolates, a card with a picture of the sender, and a personalized message. "The cost ranges from chapter to chapter, some groups start at $25 for just a song and a rose, other chapters offer the full blown premium package for $150," said Todd Wilson, the director of marketing for the Barbershop Harmony Society. "It's a pretty impactful presentation." Because of the increased demand over the years, the groups will be performing the day before and the day of Valentine's Day. The Barbershop Harmony Society has more than 30,000 members in 813 chapters scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. The proceeds from this event will help the Chordsmen sponsor local young men to attend the Barbershop Harmony Society's "Harmony Explosion" summer music camps. "We're finding music is losing out and becoming less important in schools because of all the budget cuts," Wilson said. "This is one way to increase the money for schools, but it all depends on the chapter and what they want to do with the money."
