ENFIELD, CONN. — The Mystics, who recorded "Hushabye" in 1959 which soared to #20 in the nation, will be the headliners for the next rock ‘n’ roll revival of the New England Doowop Society on Oct. 22.
“Come and dance the night away,” is the mantra of Gary Jones of Chicopee and Bob Belniak of Agawam, co-founders of the society which hosts oldies shows year-round for the region. The latest venue for the doowop shows is the Holiday Inn Springfield/Enfield at 1 Bright Meadow Blvd.
“We are starting our eighth year and going strong,” said Jones during an interview with Reminder Publications.
Jones noted they present these shows to “reflect that times were much simpler back then. It is a real pleasure to see and hear the groups of yesteryear perform with the same if not better vocals and showmanship that they still possess.”
The Mystics, originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., now reside in Florida.
“To this day the Mystics remain very popular and are in great demand,” he said. “It will be an honor and a pleasure to have the boys come and entertain our audience.”
Groups also scheduled to perform are the Cameos and Victory.
Jones said of the Cameos, “Without a doubt, one of the finest a cappella groups to ever grace our stage. Smooth as can be, these guys will dazzle you with their superb harmonies and stage presence.”
Victory has been entertaining audiences across New England for many years, and Jones noted, “The group possesses great vocal and musical ability and will surely motivate you to get on the dance floor.”
All of the groups will be available for photos and autographs after the show.
A 50/50 raffle is planned, as well as several door prizes including T-shirts and future show tickets.
