The Best Damn Sandwich: Souper Sweet Sandwich Shop, week twoDate: 4/2/2019 SPRINGFIELD – While meeting new people and writing are two aspects of my job that I enjoy, another is an office trip to seek out the best damn sandwich. For this adventure, the news team traveled down the street to Souper Sweet Sandwich Shop. Although I often drive by the plaza where the restaurant is nestled daily on my work commute, I did not notice the shop before. I totally regret it!
Upon walking in, an expansive chalkboard shows customers the day’s sandwich and soup offerings. The witty and unique names of each option caught my attention.
Unlike my colleague Payton North, I love to go outside of the box when selecting foods to try. The more unique the combination, the more likely I am to order it! When I saw a sandwich that listed potato salad as a condiment and not a side dish, I knew it was the one to order. This sandwich is called “Trainwreck.”
The Trainwreck includes marinated steak, chipotle potato salad, cheddar cheese and arugula. With only four base ingredients, the sandwich packed an unexpected and delicious punch. The flavors of the steak marinade and chipotle combined provided a flavorful bite down to the last one. I don’t usually hold lunchtime to such a high regard, but I was honestly disappointed when this sandwich was gone. Don’t mistake that for the sandwich not being filling. I was full for hours after eating. The hearty quality of each selection at Souper Sweet Sandwich Shop makes for a fulfilling lunch.
In fact, the sandwich was so enjoyable, I returned two weeks later. Although there are several options that look appealing to me, I had to order the Trainwreck again. While its name suggests a train crash of disastrous proportions, I think it’s right on the track to being the best damn sandwich.
I’ve recommended Souper Sweet Sandwich Shop to my friends and family, and suggest our readers order their own delicious sandwich to enjoy.
