Conquer Cancer license plate sales boosts Cancer House of Hope
Cancer House of Hope recieves recent boost from the state's Conquer Cancer license plate sales
SPRINGFIELD The Cancer House of Hope was the first recipient of a $14,000 grant award from the Conquer Cancer Coalition at a ceremony at The Wellness Community Greater Boston on Jan. 25 in Newton. The Conquer Cancer Coalition generated $70,000 in revenue from Conquer Cancer license plate sales and presented five Massachusetts nonprofit organizations with monetary awards.
Three years ago, Michael Zuker, 53, lost his battle with cancer. Two months later, in a flash of inspiration, Susan Zuker and her two sons founded the Conquer Cancer Coalition of Massachusetts. Together, they launched a grassroots effort to conquer the disease that had ripped Michael from their lives. Susan and her sons, Matthew and Jonathan, wanted to honor Michael's life while helping others cope with a cancer diagnosis.
"Thousands of people across this state have joined this effort. This journey has taught me none of us are alone in the fight against cancer," said Susan Zuker. "I believe that together we all can make a difference."
The Coalition will share a portion of its proceeds through an annual grant to be awarded to eligible Massachusetts-based cancer organizations. Massachusetts residents interested in obtaining the Conquer Cancer license plate can go to one of the 35 RMV branches across the state or visit www.mass.gov/rmf/express/plates.htm to order the plate online.
