HOLYOKE – Western Massachusetts doctors will trade stethoscopes for guitars, keyboards and drums on May 29, in a reprise of Docs Who Rock, a night of music, food and beverage to benefit the United Way of the Pioneer Valley.
The event features two bands of physicians, SutureSelf and Plan B, who will entertain the crowd with originals and favorites from the early days of rock and roll as well as hits of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Doors open at 6:30 for a 7 p.m. start at Open Square in Holyoke. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
“Docs Who Rock gives us a chance to take off the white coat and let our hair down for a night – and at the same time support a wonderful organization in the United Way,” Dr. John Romanelli, director of Robotic and Bariatric Surgery at Baystate Medical Center and a guitarist for Plan B, said. “Open Square is a great venue for a rock and roll show, and we’re looking forward to a memorable night.”
“Proceeds from this event support very important community services, programs and initiatives,” Dora D. Robinson, president and CEO of the United Way, said. “We are extremely grateful of the support we have received from Baystate and the members of the planning committee along with the event sponsors. We look forward to a very successful event.”
Admission includes food from award-winning Seth Mias Catering of Florence and a cash bar.
SutureSelf consists of Dr. David Desilets, Thomas Hayowyk, Dr. Thomas Higgins, Dr. Stephen Lieberman and Dr. Michael Picchioni. In addition to Romanelli, Plan B is rounded out by Anthony Barbosa, Matt Carson, Kevin Davidson and Mark ‘Doc’ Fortin.
Sponsors include Health New England, Baystate Wing Hospital and ophthalmologist Dr. Pamela Henderson. To purchase tickets or inquire about sponsorship, call 794-7630.
