Fleet Feet Sports, PVWRC team up for 5K training programDate: 8/13/2014 SPRINGFIELD – Fleet Feet Sports, a new running, walking, and fitness specialty store serving greater Springfield, is partnering with the Pioneer Valley Women’s Running Club (PVWRC) for a 5K training program.
Fleet Feet will make a donation to the nonprofit PVWRC, which will be used for the Club’s scholarship program.
“We’re pleased to be able to work together with Fleet Feet on our fall clinic, which we offer twice a year to help women try something new, get fit, and have fun,” PVWRC President Linda Edwards, said.
The 10-week New Balance No Boundaries 5K program, which Fleet Feet will administer, will offer walk, walk-to-run and run options.
Edwards said PVWRC members have been big fans of Fleet Feet and are thrilled they have opened a local store.
“Fleet Feet is about personalized service, education, and quality products. We are pleased to support a local business and we are happy they will support us as a nonprofit by making a donation to the club,” she added.
Edwards said the program will be led by a No Boundaries trained coach, who will be supported by PVWRC mentors, all of whom are past clinic participants themselves.
“I’m a reformed couch potato myself and I never could stick with learning to run on my own. This format works, and the ongoing support from our mentors is one important reason,” Edwards added.
An information session will take place Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. The program will meet Tuesday evenings, at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 8 a.m., beginning Sept. 2, for a fee of $75.

“As a nonprofit, we exist to fulfill our mission, which is to support women in staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The training programs and group events are some of the ways we do that,” Edwards said.
The PVWRC also offers area high school seniors a scholarship opportunity, which is available to local students with high school running careers, who are going on to college.
Founded in 2000, the PVWRC is a nonprofit organization, and is affiliated with the Road Runners Club of America. Visit the club website at www.pvwrc.org or on Facebook at facebook.com/pvwrc.
