Home Instead Senior Care offers long-term options
SPRINGFIELD It is not always possible for family to assist elderly parents with everyday tasks, especially if they live far away or deal with hectic work schedules. Home Instead Senior Care (HISC) provides companionship and non-medical home services to seniors. Many seniors who use HISC services are able to remain in their residence rather than be transferred to a nursing home.
For example, HISC CAREgivers will help a senior get through the morning routine of bathing, dressing, eating breakfast and preparing meals for the rest of the day. Or perhaps they will simply accompany a senior on a walk. Mopping the floor, doing laundry and changing bed sheets are other examples of the type of assistance offered.
Some seniors are once again able to go to the hairdresser every week or go out to lunch with friends because CAREgiversSM offer door-to-door transportation. HISC offers things many of us take for granted.
Some long-term health insurance companies are now covering the cost of HISC, and more are expected to do the same in the future.
Home Instead Senior Care will be one of more than 70 exhibitors at this year's Life Enrichment Expo. This expo is the only business expo servicing the needs of the 50 and older population in the Greater Springfield area. Presented by the Springfield Jewish Community Center and PRIME Magazine, it will be held in the MassMutual Room at the Basketball Hall of Fame, April 26, 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by NovaCare Rehabilitation, People's Bank, and WMAS AM 1450. Anyone interested in becoming an exhibitor at this year's Life Enrichment Expo can contact Nancy Posnick, Senior Adult Program Assistant, 739-4715 ext. 325.
When asked about participating in Life Enrichment Expo 2006, Suzanne McElroy, MSW and owner of the Chicopee-based Home Instead Senior Care office said, "I felt the audience the expo attracted was varied and in the exact demographic we serve. Furthermore, the other exhibitors represented many aspects of senior care and senior-targeted services, so the visitors were able to collect a lot of quality information on services and products that could really help improve the quality of their lives."
"It's invaluable to let people know you're in the neighborhood," added Geraldine Venskus, an employee who works in McElroy's office. Her office is one of 650 throughout North America and overseas. The Chicopee office opened in January of 2006 and is the only one in the Greater Springfield area.
HISC services are designed for practically any living arrangement where an older adult simply needs human interaction and help with day-to-day activities. For more information, visit www.homeinstead.com, or contact Suzanne McElroy at the Chicopee Home Instead Senior Care office, 592-8990.
