Nine-year-old to serve as Katelynn’s Ride ambassadorDate: 5/8/2014 AMHERST – Nine-year-old Luke of South Hadley has been named the 2014 Katelynn’s Ride/Walk Ambassador and will participate with his family as part of Team Bradley on June 1.
Luke was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and received his final treatment this past April. The 14th annual event will be a way to give back and to encourage others to help children who are fighting cancer.
Luke’s parents shared, “While it has been a roller coaster of emotions, there have been points of beauty along the way that have inspired us. More than anything else, our son, Luke, inspires us.”
Participation includes the 5K Walk or the 10-, 25-, 50-, or 100-mile cycling routes. Katelynn’s Ride/Walk is presented by Aaron’s and The Valley Advocate and PREVIEW Magazine and will benefit the Children’s Cancer Hope Fund at Baystate Medical Center’s Sadowsky Center for Children and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. To date, Katelynn’s Ride/Walk has raised more than $1.6 million in the fight against cancer.
KRide/KWalk participants are comprised of all ages and skill levels. The event offers challenging and family friendly cycling routes all of which begin and end at Hampshire College. The 5K Walk takes place on grounds of the Hampshire College campus. A virtual ride option is also available for those who want to participate, but are unable to attend.
The afternoon celebration includes a barbeque, live entertainment by the Cooper Jones Band, Baystate’s mobile blood donor unit and activities for the family including face painting, magic shows, balloon art and a Home Depot Kid’s Workshop.
