Longmeadow blood donor recognized at Fenway Park
Longmeadow resident Emily Laurenzano was honored on the field at Fenway Park prior to the Boston Red Sox game against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 30. Laurenzano, who was named the Blood Donor of the Game after recently donating blood, stated, "It was one of the most fun times I have ever had and I was so excited that I could bring my little brother along with me."
The American Red Cross, Boston Red Sox and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are currently running the fourth season of the Blood Donor of the Game Program in order to raise awareness of the ongoing need for blood donations, especially throughout the summer months when schools are not in session and many regular donors are on vacation.
"Together with the Boston Red Sox and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the American Red Cross is proud to honor lucky presenting donors with our Blood Donor of the Game Program. Fans are invited to enter for a chance of a lifetime by volunteering to help save a life of a patient in need," explained Donna M. Morrissey, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Affairs for the American Red Cross Blood Services Northeast Division.
All those who come to donate blood at any blood drive or donor Center in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont from now until Sept. 17 will have the opportunity to enter to win the honor of becoming the Blood Donor of the Game. In addition to winning two tickets to a game at legendary Fenway Park, the Blood Donor of the Game will be presented with a commemorative souvenir and a photograph, as well as special on-field recognition.

"We are proud to support the Blood Donor of the Game Program in hopes of raising awareness of the need for blood, so it will continue to be readily available for all patients in need."
