Members of Parker's Peeps, one of many teams that participated in the Oct. 16, 2011 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes at Six Flags New England, received a star award for their fund-raising efforts on Feb. 28 at the JDRF Walk Awards banquet. The team of 23 was congratulated for raising $3,500 to support JDRF's ongoing research to treat and cure Type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Representing the team were, from leftwere, Jean, four-year-old Parker and Matthew Christy, all of Southampton.
The chapter's three walks raised a total of $637,000 toward research in 2011. This year's walk is scheduled for Oct. 14 at Six Flags New England.
