Newtown police officer named keynote speakerDate: 4/17/2013 HOLYOKE – Lt. Christopher M. Vanghele from the Newtown, Conn., Police Department will serve as keynote speaker for the 24th Annual Victim Rights Conference – "Age Old Crimes, Modern Solutions," on April 25 at the Baystate Health Education Center, 361 Whitney Ave.
Each year the conference's keynote speaker is a victim, and Vanghele was a first responder at the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.
The event is sponsored by the Hampden County District Attorney's Office and Baystate Continuing Education.
The daylong conference – designed for physicians, nurses, psychologists, victim witness advocates, social workers, law enforcement professionals, therapists, teachers, guidance counselors, school administrators, clergy and others – runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will also include sessions on "Preventing Community Violence," "Human Trafficking Awareness," and "Vicarious Trauma."
